<image:title>Iron Age Religion and Beliefs - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>Weighing just over one 1kg, this neck-ring or ‘torc’, found in Snettisham, Norfolk, is made from 64 twisted wires, with hollow terminals cast onto the ends. Known as the ‘Great Torc’, it is one of the most elaborate golden objects made in the ancient world and rivals pieces by contemporary Roman, Greek and Chinese goldsmiths. Torcs likely had a spiritual symbolism, and it is perhaps for this reason depictions in art of Celtic gods often show them wearing or holding torcs. Perhaps the most famous examples can be seen in the Gundestrup Cauldron. © British Museum</image:caption>

<image:caption>In 2014 archaeologists excavating at Burrough Hill, an Iron Age hill fort in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, discovered a hoard of rare decorated bronze fittings from a chariot. Found at the bottom of a large pit, the Burrough Hill hoard consists of twenty-two items including linch pins, terret rings and iron tools. The pieces had been gathered together in a box, before being placed in the pit and burned, possibly during a religious ceremony. © British Museum</image:caption>

<image:title>Iron Age Hillforts - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>A reconstructed section through the defences of Pen Dinas, Aberystwyth. Where hillfort defences have collapsed and slumped over 2,000 years or more, the present-day earthwork profile may retain the height of the rampart at its summit (right), but will give little impression of the original appearance of standing walls and excavated ditches. At upland sites where soil accumulation is limited, it is still possible to find rampart and ditch profiles far better preserved, even with stone rampart-facing intact. © https://intarch.ac.uk/</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Balksbury House. The junction of the porch with the main conical roof is always a compromise between the slope of the thatch on the cone and that on the porch. In this case the porch had far too shallow an angle and this was one factor which led to the failure pictured above, leading to the house being dismantled.</image:caption>
